When doing something, I suggest you read everything.

Basic Class Files

Basic start website: Dummy.html
Wednesday Challenge Form (Powerpoint)
Class Rules PDF

Basic HTML/Website Commands

FOR ALL COMMANDS:
Delete any apostrophes that I've added, those make it so it won't be a command in my website here.
When you type a file name, remember to include caps and the ending like: Joe.jpg

For pictures:
<'img src="File Name Here.jpg" border = 5 height = 300 width = 450 align = bottom>
---One apostrophe: in the beginning---
Side Note:
Something special about pictures is that you can change the height and width of them.
You can make them long or wide. I find that a 2 to 3 ratio works best for any photo. Like 300 height to 450 width or vice versa.

For PDFs:
<'a href="File Name Here.pdf" border = 5 height = 400 width = 600 align = bottom>Add text for how you want it to look on your website<'/a>
---Two apostrohpes: at the beginning and end---

For Powerpoints:
<'a href="File Name Here.ppt" border = 5 height = 400 width = 600 align = bottom>Add text for how you want it to look on your website<'/a>
---Two apostrohpes: at the beginning and end---

For Links:
<'a href="Link here, INCLUDE http://">   Add text for how you want it to look on your website <'/a>
---Two apostrohpes: at the beginning and end---

Small stuff:
For all of the below, you must use carrots on both sides of the letter or word. Like these < >.
Html: for all html documents they open and close with html on the first and last lines.
Head: use head. This is for the little tab at the top of a page on your browser. Write what you want on it.
(Also for more complex stuff that you won't learn in this class)
Title: use title. This goes in your head. Between this is the actual text of what's on your tab in a browser.
Body: use body. This is for the majority of what you write in.
Paragraph: use p.
Break Line: use br.
Headers: use h and a number. Ex: h1 or h3. The smaller the number the bigger the font size.
Note: headers are already bolded and have a certain size.
Center: use center. Any writing between this will be in the middle of the page.
Marquee: use marquee. Any writing between this will move across the page.
Bold: use b.
Italics: use i.
Underline: use u.

Extras:
Background color: Instead of just <'body'> use <'body bgcolor="skyblue"'> or whatever color you want. Here's a website to pick your color.
Quick Points: This allows you to click on a link and skip down to another part of the page. There are two parts to this.
One: Make the link: use <'a href="#ID goes here">Text goes here
Two: Find where you want to go: use at the point where you want to go <'a id="ID goes here">
The IDs must be exactly the same. Step one has a # sign infront of the id though. Include caps.
Delete the apostrophes above ^ in the ahrefs.
      My example quick point: Boop.

Handy Keyboard shortcuts to help you:
These are the keyboard shortcuts I find the most helpful for anything.
SAVE: CTRL + "S" Saves the file selected. MOST IMPORTANT. Continuously do this while writing.
Close Window: CTRL + "W" Closes a window. Handy in Notepad++.
Quit Program: CTRL + "Q" Quits a program.
Copy: CTRL + "C" Copys whatever is highlighted. Can be pasted.
Cut: CTRL + "X" Cuts whatever is highlighted. Can be pasted.
Paste: CTRL + "P" Pastes whatever has been cut or copied.
Duplicate: CTRL + "D" Select a line (no need to highlight) and it'll make a new line underneath with the exact same text.
Zoom in: CTRL + "+" Zooms in!
Zoom out: CTRL + "-" Zooms out!
Reset zoom: CTRL + "0" Resets zoom to regular size!
Switch page: Hold ALT + TAB Hold the ALT key while tapping on tab. Selects which window you want to see.
Fullscreen: F11 Tap to go fullscreen and to go back to normal.
Refresh Page: F5 Tap to refresh a browser window.
New tab: CTRL + "T" Opens a new tab.

Instructions for the class

How to make Dr. Neat's Life easier
A guide by Jacob Poole :D :D :D
Note:If you encounter a problem on your website, go through these steps.
These steps will make it so you don't have to bother Dr. Neat and you can be independent! Who doesn't want to be independent?

1. Find your problem! Is a picture supposed to be in a box? Is a link not working? What is it?
2. Find where, in your Notepad ++, that error has occured.
3. If your problem is a picture, go to A. Link- go to B. Formatting- go to C.

A1. Your problem is a picture! Find where you reference your picture in Notepad ++.
A2. CHECK if you included caps and if you didn't misspell your file name. Ex: BobbyJoe.jpg
A3. If that's correct, CHECK the format of your line. Is everything correct? Any carrots missing? Above is the format for a picture.
A4. If that's correct too, CHECK if you've actually uploaded it to your Filezilla. Did you copy it over?
A5. If so, then you should have done everything right. But something isn't right. If you've refreshed your page and it isn't there,
now it's time to check with a partner/friend.
A6. If you've done that, and still nothing. I guess you have no choice but to call Dr. Neat over. Good luck!

B1. Your problem is a link! Find where you reference your link in Notepad ++.
B2. CHECK if you included caps and if you didn't misspell your file name. Ex: BobbyJoe.pdf or BobbyJoe.ppx
B3. CHECK if the format of your line is correct. Are any carrots missing? Above is the format of each of the links.
B4. CHECK if you've actually uploaded your file to Filezilla. Did you copy it over?
B5. If all of B1-B4 are correct then CHECK with a partner/friend. You've checked your page and refreshed it so they may be able to help.
B6. If you've done that, and still nothing. I guess you have no choice but to call Dr. Neat over. Good luck!

C1. Your problem is formatting! Find where your format has gone wrong in Notepad ++.
C2. CHECK if you've included caps and if you didn't misspell anything.
C3. CHECK the format of your line, check the commands above.
C4. CHECK if you've actually reuploaded your file to Filezilla. Did you overwrite it?
C5. If all of C1-C4 are correct the CHECK with a partner/friend. You've checked your page and refreshed it so they may be able to help.
C6. If you've done that, and still nothing. I guess you have no choice but to call Dr. Neat over. Good luck!

Hello. This is an example for quick points.

Making a Wednesday Challenge Form
1. First download the Wednesday Challenge Form as the powerpoint above.
2. After downloading, open it up and start editing the boxes provided for the blanks.
3. Once you're done, save the file as a powerpoint to the folder you want it in.
The reason you're saving it as a powerpoint first is so you can edit it later in the future if you want.
4. Open the file back up in powerpoint form then click Save as.
5. Find the location you want it in first, then find the area for file type, you want it to be a PDF.
The reason you want it as a PDF is that every computer can open a PDF, not all can open powerpoints.
6. Pin it to your website! You're done!

Finding pictures for your website
1. On your computer go to Computer.
2. Then click on the Teacher Share option.
3. Then click on the Gneat folder.
4. Then click on the Shared folder.
5. Then click on the Engineering folder.
6. Then click on whatever period you are as your folder.
7. There you should find pictures!

How to Upload to Filezilla
1. You should be given a username and password from Dr. Neat.
The username usually is your first name and the first initial of your last name + @drneato.com. Ex: jacobp@drneato.com
The password is a computer generated password. Completely random. Ex: j3A#b0rW
2. Open up the program Filezilla.
3. At the top of the program there are 4 boxes; Host, Username, Password, and Port.
4. For host type in: drneato.com. For username type in: your personal username. For password type in: your personal password. For port type in: 21. Always 21.
5. Now click quick connect and there should be a bunch of green text that shows up right beneath that will end with "Directory List sucessful" or something along those lines.
WARNING: if this goes wrong, and it says "Failed to Connect", close the Filezilla window. If more than 10 people in the class fail at once, the server will go down.
6. Under the box "Filename" there should be a couple folders including "html", open that one up. There should be your files.
7. Upload any files wherever you place them in your folder that you currently have.
8. Remember: you must have an index.html in the "html" folder. Not deeper.
9. Caution: once you overwrite something, that copy is gone. I suggest you keep a backup of everything on your website on your desktop.
10. Have fun and be careful!

ADVANCED: Reducing file size of photos so your website loads faster
1. Have a photo! My suggestion is to back it up somewhere too.
2. In wherever your photo is, right click your picture.
3. Click Edit. This should open paint. If not do step 2 again but click Open With and then select Paint.
4. You should see your photo, then find the button in the upper left that says Resize.
5. Select the Precentage button, NOT pixel.
6. Type in 25 to the Horizontal, and the Vertical shall change as well.
7. Hit okay then save your photo. Now your picture is a smaller file size!
